This opportunity is:

Location: Memphis, TN 38134

Days and Hours: Tuesday - Saturday (6:00am-2:30pm) or Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and holidays

In this role, you will:

  • Perform a vital part of the patient care process by performing moderate complexity drug testing.
  • Receive and verify sample integrity and ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Handle biological specimens following all established safety guidelines and ensuring proper wear of all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Log medical samples and accession chain of custody specimens into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Aliquot specimens to prepare for initial testing ensuring proper labeling at all times and route specimens to the designated testing area.
  • Store and discard specimens appropriately following all established specimen storage requirements and AEL processes.
  • Prepare analytical instrumentation for daily run following all established preventative maintenance schedules in accordance with all departmental procedures.
  • Document and maintain all quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) records such as instrumentation and reagent logs.
  • Operate analytical instrumentation to perform immunoassay-based drug-of-abuse qualitative drug testing.
  • Ensure that appropriate quality control material (i.e. calibrators, controls) is performed and acceptable on each day of patient testing.
  • Review and verify the acceptability of instrument data prior to reporting patient results following all established policies and procedures.
  • File documentation associated with daily activities following departmental guidelines for document control.
  • Clean laboratory glassware, lab equipment, and help maintain lab orderliness.
  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory's consumable inventory by requesting supplies in a timely manner to prevent service disruption.
  • Comply with all individual, team, and laboratory safety procedures and requirements.
  • Communicate with co-workers, clients, vendors, and visitors professionally and respectfully.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company-wide goals.
  • Participate in data collection efforts to optimize laboratory workflow and enhance service.
  • Other duties assigned by Toxicology leadership may include, but are not limited to, assisting other departments with sample processing or other duties as trained, and helping/guiding new testing personnel.

All you need is:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology; or
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science
  • Must be able to understand graphs, tables, charts, and perform calculations needed for the assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently to plan and conduct laboratory work accurately and efficiently.
  • Must be able to work well with other team members and other laboratory personnel.
  • Must be able to understand and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work with frequent fluctuations in workload.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail.

Bonus points if you’ve got:

  • Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, OR,
  • Pervious experience working in Toxicology performing clinical or forensic drug testing, OR,
  • Previous experience working in a high complexity analytical laboratory with HPLC, LC-MS/MS, or GC-MS/MS instrumentation.
