Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

Location: Aiea, HI

Status: Full-time

Days/Hours: Business hours, Hybrid - Wednesdays onsite

Base pay rate: $120,000 - $135,000 D.O.E.

Sonic Healthcare USA is the largest medical laboratory in the world and third largest in the United States. As a company, we are shifting our focus to be a competitive player in technology. As part of this effort, we have created several in-house web applications to serve our laboratory staff, providing them with customized and highly efficient workflow and information management systems.


Challenges you can work on

  • Develop features and enhancements for a mature product that is currently driving day-to-day operations
  • Support evolving healthcare regulatory requirements
  • Refactoring of the legacy codebase to maintain future scalability

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in physical, biological, laboratory or computer sciences
  • Two years supervisory or managerial experience in clinical or information service/technology related areas
  • 2+ years of .NET development experience
  • Excellent problem solver, with a focus on team success
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
  • Highly motivated to explore solutions and adapt processes to address business needs
  • Advanced knowledge of various SQL languages and Git

Nice to haves

  • Experience with HL7, Corepoint, Cloverleaf or other healthcare communication protocols
  • Experience with reporting tools such as DevExpress and SSRS
  • Experience in areas related to laboratory or hospital information technology

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Design:
    • Take a lead role in planning, with a focus on ensuring each developer on the team understands the design & implementation decisions and how to apply them
    • Collaborate with product owners early in the planning process to help guide architectural decisions that will lead to more stability and sustainable design
    • Collaborate with peers and key stakeholders to create conceptual designs for new software applications and upgrades to existing software applications
    • Assign complexity estimations to features
    • Communicate business cases, requirements, project plans and project status to all levels of the organization.
  • Application Development & Testing:
    • Deliver clean, readable code that meets requirements
    • Be a standard bearer for team standards of development practices
    • Provide appropriate documentation of development work
    • Collaborate with teammates on every task
    • Subject all features to manual testing to ensure acceptance criteria are met with a focus on user experience
    • Coordinate peer reviews on every task
  • Support and Maintenance:
    • Work with support teams to understand and triage defects as they arise
    • Participate in efforts to reduce technical debt
    • Be available to address emergency issues in a 24/7 healthcare environment
  • Management:
    • Acts as the lead of the engineers on the data warehouse team including:
      • Assignment of ad hoc and recurring data mining requests
      • Database systems support
      • Set team and individual objectives in line with departmental and company objectives
      • Provide subject matter expertise to the team
      • Mentor and develop talent with career development plans
      • Conduct staff performance reviews
      • Shares responsibility with the IT manager for continuous quality improvement for IT and related areas
      • Works with the IT manager and other leads to assure adequate training of new staff
  • Culture and Team Development:
    • Set the tone for mentorship of all team members
    • Actively seek out opportunities to improve the team dynamic
    • Maintain a focus on breaking down silos
    • Foster an environment of fluid collaboration
    • Ensure that all data communications are secure as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996
