The Lead Community Outreach Specialist is a senior member of the Outreach team responsible for executing outreach activities while providing day-to-day guidance and support to Outreach Specialists.

This role supports team effectiveness by offering coaching, assisting with onboarding and training, coordinating outreach activities, and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The Lead Outreach Specialist ensures alignment with organizational standards while maintaining individual outreach responsibilities.

In addition to outreach functions, this role may provide in-person peer recovery support services (1:1 and/or group facilitation) when assigned, operating under the same requirements, supervision, and standards as Peer Support Specialists.

Scope of the Role

    The Lead Community Outreach Specialist operates in two primary functions:

    1. Outreach & Enrollment Leadership

    • Community outreach and member enrollment
    • Team guidance
    • Support of outreach execution and performance
    • 2. Community Partner Development

      • Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and referral partners to increase awareness of Marigold services.
      • Represent Marigold at provider meetings, community events, and networking opportunities to strengthen partnerships and support referral growth.
      • Identify and communicate market opportunities, referral trends, and partner feedback to leadership to support strategic outreach efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • A. Community Outreach & Engagement
  • Perform all core outreach responsibilities, including:
    • Conducting site visits and community outreach
    • Engaging potential members in various settings
    • Promoting Marigold Health’s peer support services
    • Build and maintain relationships with provider partners and community organizations
    • Represent Marigold Health professionally in all external interactions
    • B. Member Enrollment & Activation

      • Assist individuals in accessing and enrolling in the Marigold platform
      • Support onboarding and initial engagement
      • Coordinate handoff to peer support services following enrollment
      • C. Team Guidance & Leadership

        • Serve as the first point of contact for non-supervisor outreach questions and support
        • Provide real-time guidance and coaching in the field or virtually
        • Share best practices related to outreach strategy, communication, and documentation
        • Support team alignment with organizational processes and expectations
        • D. Training & Onboarding Support

          • Assist in onboarding and training new Outreach Specialists
          • Reinforce standard workflows, tools, and outreach approaches
          • Support ongoing skill development across the outreach team
          • E. Provider Engagement & Relationship Management

          • Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical leaders, care managers, peer support teams, and community partners
          • Conduct regular provider outreach, site visits, and partner meetings to strengthen engagement and identify opportunities for growth
          • Collaborate with provider organizations to improve referral pathways, enrollment processes, and member activation outcomes
          • Track and communicate partner feedback, market intelligence, and emerging needs to internal stakeholders
          • Maintain accurate documentation of provider interactions, engagement activities, and partnership outcomes
          • F. In-Person Peer Support Services (When Assigned)

            • Provide recovery-oriented peer support in individual and/or group settings
            • Facilitate in-person peer support groups using lived experience and recovery principles
            • Maintain appropriate boundaries consistent with peer support scope
            • Operate under supervision and requirements applicable to Peer Support Specialists
            • G. Service Delivery Compliance (When Providing Peer Support)

              • Complete required documentation for peer services in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards
              • Follow supervision, training, and escalation protocols required for peer staff
              • Ensure services align with billing, contractual, and compliance requirements
              • H. Performance & Process Improvement

                • Identify operational challenges and opportunities for improvement
                • Escalate process inefficiencies, risks, or issues to the Outreach Manager
                • Support implementation of improvements and best practices across the team
                • I. Documentation & Reporting

                  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, enrollments, and member interactions
                  • Ensure documentation is timely, accurate, and compliant with organizational standards
                  • Support reporting requirements related to outreach performance
                  • J. Risk Awareness & Escalation

                    • Recognize potential safety or behavioral health concerns during outreach or service delivery
                    • Follow established protocols to escalate concerns to appropriate teams
                    • Maintain appropriate boundaries in all member interactions

Core Competencies

    To perform this role effectively, the Lead Community Outreach Specialist must demonstrate:

    • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
    • Ability to provide formal leadership and mentorship
    • Strong understanding of outreach strategies and community engagement
    • Ability to appropriately use lived experience (when applicable)
    • Strong group facilitation skills (for those delivering peer services)
    • Clear understanding of boundaries between peer support and clinical care
    • Strong organizational and coordination skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support team effectiveness
    • Ability to identify risks and escalate appropriately

Minimum Qualifications

    • 2–3 years of experience in community outreach, healthcare engagement, or related roles
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor or guide peers
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
    • Willingness to travel extensively (up to ~75%)
    • Meets or is actively working toward meeting state-specific requirements for Peer Support Specialist certification, including:
      • Completion of required training and/or
      • Accumulation of supervised hours toward certification
      • Demonstrates lived experience with, or a strong understanding of, substance use and/or mental health recovery, consistent with applicable state requirements

Preferred Qualifications

    • Active certification as a Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Coach
    • Experience facilitating groups or providing peer support services
    • Experience in behavioral health or substance use recovery environments
    • Experience coordinating outreach programs or team activities
    • Familiarity with digital health platforms

Supervision and Reporting Structure

    • Reports directly to Manager of Outreach
    • Provides mentorship and support to Outreach Specialists
    • When providing peer services:
      • Operates under supervision consistent with Peer Support Specialists
      • Adheres to all supervision, documentation, and compliance requirements
